SuperLaminate™ Internal Pipeline Repair
No-Dig Carbon Fiber Solution for Water, and Oil & Gas Pipelines
A New Standard in Pipeline Repair
Aging pipelines are one of the greatest challenges facing infrastructure owners today. Corrosion, leaks, and structural deterioration can lead to costly failures, environmental damage, and safety risks.
SuperLaminate™ by QuakeWrap® is an advanced fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) system designed to repair pipelines from the inside—without excavation. Originally developed for water and wastewater systems, this technology has now been successfully extended to high-pressure oil and gas transmission pipelines, offering a faster, safer, and more sustainable solution.
By combining carbon fiber strength, innovative installation methods, and automation, SuperLaminate™ is redefining how pipelines are repaired worldwide.
What is SuperLaminate™?
SuperLaminate™ is a carbon and glass fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) segmental lining system installed internally using an inflatable packer.
The system utilizes carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) with a tensile modulus of elasticity of up to 20 × 10⁶ psi, providing exceptional strength while remaining lightweight and easy to handle.
The laminate is manufactured in rolls:
- Up to 60 inches (1.5 m) wide
- Typically 300 ft (90 m) long
- Can be inserted through access points as small as 6 inches (150 mm)
Manufactured in the USA, SuperLaminate™ meets strict industry standards including NSF-61, ICC, and IAPMO R&T NSF-372 for potable water applications.
How the Technology Works
SuperLaminate™ is installed using a simple yet highly effective internal process:
- The laminate is wrapped around an inflatable packer
- The packer is inserted into the pipeline and positioned at the repair location
- The packer inflates, pressing the laminate tightly against the pipe wall
- Heat or ambient curing activates the resin system
- The packer is removed, leaving a permanent structural liner
For oil and gas pipelines, the system can be deployed using an Automated Guide Vehicle (AGV) that travels inside the pipe to reach the damaged area—functioning much like a structural “stent” for pipelines.
Breakthrough for Oil & Gas Pipelines (USDOT-Supported Innovation)
SuperLaminate™ has been successfully advanced for use in steel oil and gas transmission pipelines through a federally funded SBIR program supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
This innovation enables true no-dig point repairs:
- Installed from existing access points
- Travels through bends and slopes inside pipelines
- Eliminates trenching and excavation
- Reduces cost and disruption significantly
The system uses an Automated Guide Vehicle (AGV) to carry the SuperLaminate™ repair to the damaged location, where it is expanded and cured in place.
As highlighted by USDOT, this approach provides a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional external repairs
